Earth Hour

Earth Hour, which began in 2007 in Sydney Australia, is a world-wide event held each March.  The simple act of turning off lights, just for one hour, has brought together individuals, organizations, and governments for the unified act of raising awareness about environmental sustainability.

During one designated hour each year, people turn off the lights...from individuals at home to high-ranking officials in landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Rome's Colosseum, and the Sydney Harbor Bridge.  This year's event was the largest yet with 135 countries taking part in celebrating and contemplating the one thing we all have in common -- our planet.
